This Weeks Discoveries. 3/13/2018
Wenatchee Home Inspections

As a Home Inspector, Structural Pest Inspector and Home Inspection Licensing Instructor I try to keep up with new products, manufacturer or trade information, code information or just interesting content that may help those who are in the profession or looking to further educate themselves.  The material may be articles, documents, video link, vendor sites, technical materials or even an interesting code questions.

Below is a list of some interesting items found in the last week.

Construction/Building Information-

For those who are doing commercial inspections here is a nice document on Tilt-Up Construction.

http://tilt-up.org/tilt-uptoday/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/CTU-Final-web.pdf

Building Codes/Technical Documents-

Found this library on the US Dept of Energy. A quite of bit of info here.

Building America Solution Center

This library contains research reports produced by the Building America program and other building science resources used to support this Solution Center. The materials cover both new construction and existing homes.

Electrical

Here is an interesting article on torquing specs. But this could be applied to many things when it comes to installations.

The Article-

WHY IS IT — We Don’t Follow the Code in 110.3(B)

"It has been estimated that 90 percent of electrical failures occur at connections. How many of those connections would never have failed if properly tightened in the first place?"

120 / 240 VAC SINGLE SPLIT PHASE & MULTI-WIRE BRANCH CIRCUITS

Excerpt from G4 InverCharge Series Manual

Here is a good video from Paul Abernathy on inspecting panels. This is primarily aimed at those newer to home inspector profession but still some interesting information that even more seasoned home inspectors may find a nugget or two to think about.

Miscellaneous Information-

This is a very interesting article on Radiation and Radon and some of the controversy surrounding it.

"Risks and Benefits of Radiation"

The story of radon's study in public health can be a guide for how to best weigh the pros and cons of radiation use.
