Moderating temperature fluctuations in the home with your forced air system.

Moderating temperature fluctuations in the home with your forced air system. Chelan and Wenatchee Home Inspection

My wife was complaining...  she finds that some of the rooms either being too hot or too cold. So what to do? (Come on boys and girls we need to solve the problem).

Have you noticed that your home will rise and fall in temperature during the heating and cooling seasons?

Why is this? Well usually your thermostat is located in a hall or other location that may not be the best indicator of the homes overall temperature.

Homes have rooms with various sizes, configurations and uses. Because of this even heat/cooling distribution and air movement can be challenging.

                                            Thermostat

What can you do? One approach is to turn your fan to the “On” mode from “Auto” mode. What this will do is continuously cycle the air throughout the home creating a more even temperature.

In most forced air HVAC designs you will have a high and low return air duct. The system will draw air from those locations and then redistribute through the home. The heat/air conditioning will only come on when the temperature hits your program set points.

By doing this I think you will find that you will have a more even and comfortable temperature throughout the home.

In addition there may be an added benefit of creating better circulation for the health of your home and its occupants. If the air is constantly circulating it will help dry those areas of condensation/moisture build up such as on windows or basement storage with poor air-flow and fresh air will be introduced if you have a fresh damper on the furnace.

Enhanced ventilation is always a good thing for homes and people, this is especially true as we create tighter and tighter envelopes.

Remember to keep your air filter clean and perform your yearly maintenance to keep the system in tip top shape. This will save you money over the long haul.

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
