Go with the flow-  Drainage pipes Wenatchee and Chelan Home Inspections

Now when it come to reduction, if it is my waistline I am all for it.  But some things are not meant to be reduced.

Plumbing reducer Chelan Home Inspections

Here we have a drain coming out and then attaching to the trap. If you look closely you will see there actually is a reducer installed.

Oh oh… this is not my waistline and since it is a drain you cannot reduce the drain line in the direction of flow. There is a good reason for this. If the flow amount exceeds the drain size then you can get a back up and then it can overflow.

Improper use of reducer Wenatchee Home Inspections

Even if flow was not a problem then there is this little thing called code. I know we are not code inspectors but knowing this is not right you have to say something.

From the 2008 IRC (International Residential Code)

P3005.4 Drain pipe sizing. (IPC 704.2)

Drain pipes shall be sized according to drainage fixture unit (d.f.u.) loads. The size of the drainage piping shall not be reduced in size in the direction of flow.

So there we have it. It is not right and should be corrected. I think it is time to call in your local plumbing contractor and have it done right.
