Quincy and Chelan Home Inspection- Private wells and water sampling.

Submitted by DonHester on Thu, 12/08/2011 - 17:39.

Quincy and Chelan Home Inspection- Private wells and water sampling.

Many homes in rural areas in North Central Washington (Chelan, Douglas, Okanogan, Grant and Kittitas Counties) will have their water supply derived from a private or community well. (Well information- Link)

Ensuring you have a safe and viable water source should be a priority.

Some of the tests that you may consider-

Bacterial Test- This is the most common test looking for bacterial contamination in the water source.

Nitrates and Nitrites- Important for Pregnant Women and Infants

Nitrites in the body cause the hemoglobin in the blood to change to methemoglobin. Methemoglobin reduces the amount of oxygen that can be carried in the blood. If you have an infant, or someone in your household who is pregnant or plans to become pregnant it is recommended you test your water at least once a year.

Water Research

Common/Heavy Metals- Lead, Mercury, Copper, Cadmium, Arsenic etc…

Heavy metals such as lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium are often linked to human poisoning. Heavy metals such as copper, zinc, and chromium, are needed by the body in small amounts, but can become toxic in larger doses.

Volatile Organic Compounds- VOCs are ground-water contaminants of concern because of very large environmental releases, human toxicity, and a tendency for some compounds to persist in and migrate with ground-water to drinking-water supply wells.

Hydrocarbons- If potential sources from active or abandoned refineries, gas stations and fueling stations are near.

Here is a great Video on well inspection and sampling.
