Well sometimes you just have way too much fun during your home inspection.
When you live in a mountainous, river and lake filled area you get to see many different building structures. I perform home inspections on many cabin-like structures. These are not the “cabins” some refer to that may be more luxurious than most people’s main homes.
These are true cabins in their various humble beginnings and conditions.
What happens often for many of these structures is that they have been there for a while and sit on some pretty nice property, such as river-sides, lakes or beautiful mountain scenery.
And you may have guessed, these little humble creatures become very desirable for those weekend getaways from the hustle and bustle of city life. And like anything they get priced in accordance of what we as a populace deem them worth.
I always talk to my client about what their intention is on these structures. Many times they really are not worth putting a bunch of money into rehabilitation. So what we end up doing is basically a safety check and make sure the home will not fall down or burn up in the near future. I refer to them as very comfortable wooden tents.
In this particular inspection I needed to turn on the water. We had permission and held harmless from the owner prior to activating. So let the fun begin.

As you can see we had unprotected plumbing and a little mountain freeze made it burst. In many of these types of structures replacement with PEX is a desirable correction. Many plumbers who deal with these conditions find that PEX is the most durable material for this application.
Now that was fun. It is always a new day when inspecting these types of structures.
