Imitation Slate and Shingle

Imitation Slate and Shingle
Belleforté/DiVinci Roofing Materials

Wenatchee Home Inspections

One product I have now run into is a synthetic slate looking roof. The materials is Belleforté Slate. This is a composite plastic material that is molded to look like slate.

Since this was the first for me to see this material I did a little research on it.

Installation cost can vary by location and other factors but a general of $7 to $11 per square foot material & labor. As a comparison a 3-tab composition shingle roof will cost an average of $3.50 to $4.50 per square foot to install, materials and labor. So you are about double.

The manufacturer uses virgin polymeres to ensure quality and durability. DaVinci roofing is recyclable and you can recycle the material to them and they will use it for their starter course material which is recycled product from their manufacturing process materials and any materials returned to them.

As for a Class A fire rating you will need  to install the material with a required underlayment.

ANSI/UL 790 Standard Test Methods for Fire Tests of Roof Coverings is used to determine roofing materials' or a roof assemblies fire rating.  Based on this criteria the material or assembly will be designated with a Class A, B or C designation.

These classes represent different levels of fire-resistance performance to external fire exposure, with Class A being the highest standard.

Per the manufacturer in order for their material to meet a Class A system for fire - One layer of Eco Chief Solarhide may be installed on the entire roof deck. As an alternative, a minimum of one layer ASTM D 3909 cap sheet and one layer ASTM D 226 type II 30 lb. felt must be installed over the entire deck.

These underlayments must be used in addition to the self-adhered membrane in order to fulfill the requirements of a Class A system.

So if you looking for a slate look this is a product may want to look into.
